For an undergrad mixed media class, we were tasked with displaying aspects of ourselves. I used many different mediums to depict my experiences playing piano in the past. I used heavily darkened and frayed sheet music within the background pattern meant to look like shattered glass, as well as pasted in realistic eyes to create a deep sense of unease. I also added splatters of red for contrast, and to compare the anxiety to a physical injury preventing me from playing. During critique basically everyone agreed that my piece was unsettling and difficult to look away from, so I’d say I was pretty successful.
